Abstract

Allium cepa L aggregatum belonging to Amaryllidaceae family is a bulb found in South-East Asia and some African countries. It is consumed across the world for a variety of purposes that include food and medicine.

The present study highlights the formulation and evaluation of nano-encapsulated anti-inflammatory ointment containing volatile oil of Allium cepa L aggregatum. Extraction of volatile oil of Allium cepa L aggregatum was carried out through hydrodistillation by using clevenger apparatus. The volatile oil of Allium cepa L aggregatum was incorporated into calcium alginate beads and it was successfully formulated into anti-inflammatory ointment. It was subjected to various studies like GC-MS, in-vitro drug release studies like diffusion study was conducted. The formulation was also evaluated for various physico chemical parameters such as homogeneity, pH, spreadability, extrudability and In-vitro anti- inflammatory activity was also carried out.
