Abstract

Ashwagandha (Withaniasomnifera) is a widely used medicinal herb renowned for its adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of Ashwagandha formulations requires robust analytical methods for the identification and quantification of its bioactive constituents, particularly withanolides. This review highlights recent advancements in method development and validation using techniques such as HPLC, HPTLC, UV-spectroscopy, and LC-MS, with emphasis on ICH-compliant parameters including accuracy, precision, specificity, linearity, and robustness. Standardized and validated analytical procedures not only facilitate quality control and regulatory compliance but also promote consistency in therapeutic outcomes. The review also discusses emerging trends in herbal analysis, such as multi-component profiling and green analytical methods, which aim to strengthen the scientific foundation of Ashwagandha-based therapeutics.
