Abstract

The Smart Overheat Protection System for Motor is a sensor-based safety and monitoring system designed to detect excessive temperature in electric motors and protect them from overheating. Electric motors are widely used in industrial machines, pumps, fans, agricultural equipment, and domestic applications. Continuous operation, overload, poor ventilation, bearing friction, voltage variation, and high ambient temperature can increase motor temperature and may cause insulation damage, winding failure, reduced efficiency, or complete motor breakdown.

The proposed system continuously monitors the motor temperature using a temperature sensor and a microcontroller such as Arduino. The measured temperature is compared with a predefined safe limit. When the temperature reaches the warning level, an alarm or indicator alerts the user. If the temperature exceeds the critical limit, the microcontroller automatically activates a relay or contactor to disconnect the motor from the power supply.

The system can display the current temperature and motor status on an LCD or digital interface. Additional features such as current monitoring, data logging, IoT connectivity, and mobile notifications can be integrated in future versions. The proposed system provides a low-cost, automatic, and reliable solution for preventing motor overheating, reducing maintenance costs, improving motor life, and increasing operational safety.
