Abstract
The contents that constitute the digital museum is the union of digital application/digital content /collection, with services & digital platforms supported by several different kinds of digital technology which includes digitizing the collections, database on the web, online tours, virtual exhibitions, 3D objects,VR /AR technologies, Artificial intelligence. This paper will examine the effect digital museums have on culture preservation by providing culture accessibility, cultural visual, culture education, culture participation, culture protection and so on. Data collection To make use of primary data one could make use of a question sheet to distributed to approx. 100-150 individuals with an understanding and/or an experience of digital museums.
Accessibility, digital preservation, authenticy, engagingness, educational awareness and cultural awareness are measured as valuable attributes. In terms of sample analyses the results revealed digital museums to be useful in cultural heritage preservation and archiving, increasing public awareness and educational potential and offering the public access to both collection and supporting documents. But the issues of tech-disuse and technology obsolescence, Intellectual Property and copyrights issues, Data Security issues and issues concerning money and the ‘digital divide,’ may all impact its longevity and sustainability over the long run. The paper suggests the digital museum can play a complimentary role to that of a physical museum in the conservation of cultural heritage.
