Abstract
Microchip electrophoresis (ME), a scaled-down version of traditional capillary electrophoresis (CE), has become a potent analytical tool for the separation and measurement of several compounds with significant biological and pharmacological applications. These systems significantly reduce reagent and sample consumption, shorten analysis times, and allow integration of sample preparation, separation, and detection on a single device by limiting electrophoretic separations to microfabricated channels etched or molded into glass, quartz, silicon, or polymeric substrates [1, 3]The basic working principles of microchip electrophoretic systems, the materials and fabrication techniques utilized to construct them, the frequently used injection and separation modes, and the detecting technologies related to these devices are all summarized in this paper. Their use in nucleic acid analysis, immunoassays, protein and peptide characterization, and pharmaceutical quality control is given special emphasis. The remaining difficulties and the prospects for clinical and industrial translation are also discussed . Widespread use is nevertheless hampered by issues such restricted sample loading capacity, fabrication complexity, repeatability, surface adsorption, and commercialization hurdles, despite its many benefits. It is expected that these limitations will be solved by ongoing research concentrating on better chip fabrication, increased sensitivity, reliable surface modification techniques, and fully integrated portable analytical systems. All things considered, microchip electrophoresis is a potent, effective, and economical separation platform with considerable potential to supplement or replace traditional analytical methods in pharmaceutical and biological applications. It is projected that additional developments in microfabrication, materials science, automation, and detecting technologies will solidify MCE's position as a crucial technology for upcoming analytical and diagnostic systems.
