Abstract

This study examines the long-term rainfall distribution and trends in Dapoli, Maharashtra, India, using rainfall records spanning from 1980 to 2023. Dapoli, located in the Konkan region along the western coast of India, receives substantial rainfall due to the influence of the Southwest Monsoon and the orographic effect of the Western Ghats. The objectives of this study are to analyze temporal rainfall variability, seasonal distribution, long-term trends, and the occurrence of extreme rainfall events. Monthly and annual rainfall data were statistically analyzed to identify changes in rainfall patterns over four decades. Results indicate that the monsoon season contributes the majority of annual rainfall, with July and August recording the highest precipitation. The study also suggests increasing rainfall variability and a growing frequency of extreme rainfall events in recent years. The findings provide valuable insights for water resource management, agricultural planning, flood mitigation, and climate adaptation strategies in Dapoli and surrounding coastal regions.
